He might be buddies with dictator president Hugo Chavez, but Sean Penn does care about helping those less fortunate.
In fact, he’s now been in Haiti for the past several months now leaving just a week after the devastating quake on January 12th and he’s been there helping with the exception of leaving only a few times.
Though the humanitarian doesn’t plan on leaving again until mid next month. Says Penn:
“These people are going to have nowhere to go, by and large, in the rainy season. The efforts that we’ve seen … have been extraordinary — down the line. But this is an impossible kind of situation.”
Sean’s organization, the Jenkins-Penn Haiti Relief Organization, is currently providing people with medical care and food.
Most recently, the organization opened a health clinic this past weekend to help mothers and victims of a reported growing sexual assault epidemic.
Adds Penn:
“As long as this camp is here, we’ll stay here. When this camp’s not here anymore then we’ll have to be where we are accessible to people.
I don’t think that anybody who hasn’t been in places like this really understands what poverty is, and what a real lack of infrastructure is.”
Nice to see people haven’t lost interest in helping.
